Birmingham City are hoping to agree a deal with Aston Villa defender Tommy Elphick within the next 24 hours, the Daily Mail are reporting.

Elphick, 29, has been linked with the club a couple of times already this transfer window and Harry Redknapp could be about to get his man.

The centre back only joined Villa last summer and was named captain by Roberto Di Matteo.

His opportunities became limited following the appointment of Steve Bruce as Elphick went on to make 26 Championship appearances.

Blues are well-stocked in the central defensive department and have already signed Marc Roberts this summer, but it seems that Redknapp is keen to further strengthen.

Elphick is well experienced at this level having won the league with Bournemouth in 2014/15.

Sunderland and Leeds have also been linked with the player.
