Blues Have Limited Options

It would seem that Birmingham City can now operate in the transfer market, albeit at the bottom of that market.

Birmingham have recently embarked on bids to sign Malouda and Ben Arfa. They are now set to pick up American international Shea from Stoke. It is clear Birmingham have that little bit more money available for players.

There are several reasons. The main one being that Blues are now out of the contract between themselves and Nikola Zigic. His contract was believed to be as high as a whopping £64,000 a week at one time. It may of been higher in his final year.

Chris Burke was also on a heavy wage, one of the survivors from the team McLeish started to put together before he walked out and over the City to Aston Villa. So him leaving was another £15-20,00 off the bill.

Tom Adeyemi was sold for £1m and that has gone a long way to putting some capital into the club.

Combine this with the efforts of the new boss at St Andrews Panos Pavlakis and Lee Clark and you get some promising news from time to time.

Birmingham will need investment before any serious improvement up the table is achieved. The first team experience are a shadow of the quality that used to grace that St Andrews pitch.

But for the time being, things are an improvement on last year and Lee Clark has some exciting young talent to work this again! and this time they’re staying put!
