Birmingham City and manager Harry Redknapp have been handed a boost in their bid to sign Barnsley defender Marc Roberts after the Tykes agreed a fee with Partick Thistle for Liam Lindsey.

The Yorkshire Post believe the fee is in the region of £350,000 meaning that if they offloaded Roberts, something which we understand at Vital Birmingham they are in no rush to do, they could well recoup nearly 15 times the amount they have spent.

It is believed that Barnsley value Roberts at around £5 million meaning that he would be the first player that Blues have paid a transfer fee for since Redknapp took over after David Stockdale joined on a free from Brighton and Hove Albion.

The news about Roberts comes as a welcome bonus after reports came out earlier on Wednesday evening suggesting that former England and Chelsea captain John Terry is set to join local rivals Aston Villa after turning down Blues’ initial approach.

But with Lindsey set to join Barnsley, could that potentially pave the way for Roberts to make a big money move to St.Andrew’s?

Make sure you stay tuned to Vital Birmingham as we will bring you all the updates as and when we get them!
