Hogwood Park was the venue for a non-competitive fixture for the U21 side against a lively looking Reading U21 team.

The official BCFC.com site showed the team sheet to be:
Blues Under-21s: Weaver, Bernard, Cotton, Mbende, Harding, Hancox, Moore (Cotton. 70), Baba, Cooper, O`Neill (Cesar, 80) McDonald (Seddon, 70), Jones (Popa, 40).
McDonald.

Jones has looked a very good proposition in his previous game for the U21’s and so I was hopeful for another big performance. Harding, Bernard, Cooper and McDonald also look very exciting. We have a strong spine for the young age group and it would be great if they could progress.

Despite a good defensive performance for the Blues in the opening exchanges, they managed to fall behind after just 20 minutes. A lovely shot from the striker beyond the reach of Weaver. Having said that, there was plenty of time for the young lads to come back and they certainly looked up for it.

Heads didn’t go down as Birmingham City looked to press straight from the restart. This attitude got them a reward. 2 minutes later, Moore who is on trial at Birmingham City, managed to stab home from a scramble in the box following a set piece. It wasn’t pretty but he did well to be strong in what was a pin ball situation.

The winning goal was also a bit of a scrappy one but it was O’Neill tenacity that sealed the victory. The opposition goalkeeper just didn’t play the ball quickly enough so O’Neill took the opportunity to tackle him before rolling the ball into the net. A game that showed a lot of character without really being very good.
