We sit back and watch as that lot down the road bring in yet another signing. Again, we play the waiting game.

A left back is needed, a centre forward of the traditional kind would be useful and, if we’re being greedy, a creative central midfielder who is also good in the tackle.

But that’s just the thing, all of the above cost money. And after signing two attacking players, Che Adams and Greg Stewart, Blues’ pot of money is significantly low. Settling for a free transfer and/or loan signing will more than likely be the outcome.

This just goes to show the financial chasm between clubs in this league. This article isn’t a ‘get behind Gary Rowett’ plea, neither is it a ‘he hasn’t got a clue’ admission. But from time to time, something happens which makes you realise that Blues are still a club recovering from extremely difficult times.

While Villa fans bang on about attendances, what they fail to realise is that Blues have had nothing but misery in the last five years. All of our young talent was sold, our owner locked up behind Hong Kong bars and we witnessed possibly the worst football of our history under Lee Clark. And add to that the fact we didn’t have a pot to piss in. Yet still we attract close to 20,000.

Give the same circumstances to our neighbours and the outcome would be no different.

Being a Blues fan is difficult and downright frustrating. But we love our club from the bottom of our hearts. So as the lyrics to our famous anthem go – ‘though you’re tired and weary, still journey on, til you come to your happy abode’.

Keep Right On!
