Birmingham City are set to battle fellow championship side Charlton Athletic and League One side Wigan Athletic for the signature of out of contract midfielder Paul Anderson.

The 26 year old is now available on a free transfer after he was not given new terms by the championship playoff semi-finalists and now there is a reported three way battle for the former Liverpool youngster according to HITC Sport.

After joining Ipswich from Bristol City, the midfielder made a total of 68 appearances, scoring seven goals during a two year spell at Portman Road.

It was believed in the past couple of weeks that the Blues were leading the chase for the former Town man but it is now understood that they face some stern competition for his signature.

In the first week of July, manager Gary Rowett confirmed that there were deals in place for a couple of players but he was just waiting for replies off those players. Could Anderson be one of those players?
