Following the announcement that the Leeds game is to be postponed due to the state of our new pitch, it has been revealed that Blues could be severely punished.

Blues believed they could lay the new pitch after having a number of problems with the old surface in record time without it effecting the upcoming home games. The club has run into countless problems because of the weather and had to apply to the FA to reschedule the Leeds game as the new surface failed to pass tests.

A league statement said:

‘We have acceded to Birmingham’s request and will investigate the circumstances.’

Th League could impose a fine on the club now and could even enforce a points deduction although you would that would be considered extreme.

Karren Brady has assured fans that the club did make every effort to overcome the problems.

‘Nothing more could have been done in terms of manpower, machinery and equipment to get this game on.

‘Due to the club’s extensive efforts since the freak rainfall on Tuesday and Wednesday to get the game on in the face of adversity, all the areas of turf we’ve just laid will now have to be dug up and a new pitch laid.’

Whatever the decision by the League this is a very embarrassing backfire by the club although with the state of the pitch previously we really had no option but to attempt laying the new surface.

After the diary cockup the other day, at least being the first professional club to cancel a fixture after laying a new pitch is something history will remember as being purely a Birmingham record.

Maybe the PR could’ve been better over this, I’ve just seen Midlands Today refused access to the ground and nobody was available to comment.
