Birmingham boss Alex McLeish has admitted that he would be interested in signing Middlesbrough defender David Wheater like a shot.
But McLeish concedes the club are not likely to be in a position to bid for Wheater even though they have been casting an eye over him recently.

‘With all due respect, who are we going to be able to buy to satisfy our supporters, totally?’ said McLeish at a local fans’ forum.
‘It’s difficult for us to buy top-end centre-halves in the Premier League.
‘If Middlesbrough go down, then Wheater? He is a decent player and someone we have watched over the last five weeks just in case they say ‘do you want a bargain’?
‘But we think they will be looking for about eight or nine million pounds.’
When asked whether the club had eight or nine million, he replied: ‘Not for one player.
