Blues received a blow earlier today when it was revealed that striker Kevin Phillips tore a muscle in his thigh and is facing a long spell on the sidelines.

The veteran striker came on as a second half sub on Saturday when Blues took on Mallorca at St Andrews. Phillips pulled up suddenly and fell to the ground holding his leg.

The 37 year old was taken off, but it was clear that he had done some damage.
Scans today confirmed the damage but manager Alex McLeish is confident that his striker can bounce back from this latest set-back.

‘Kevin has torn his thigh muscle and will be out for a while, it will be a considerable period,’ McLeish told the club’s official website.

‘But he is a notoriously quick healer so anything will be a bonus.’
