Blues: autumn of discontent?

Following Birmingham’s abject performance at the Riverside last Saturday, it’s probably to be expected that the ‘Bruce Out’ brigade would start making their opinions known on the fan sites.

A lot of Bruce’s detractors were prepared to give him a clean slate for the start of the season and were suitably impressed by the performance against Chelsea.

One or two faint alarm bells rang at the Sunderland game as a lead was allowed to slip needlessly; although goals were scored, there were hints of the sloppiness that has caused problems before.

West Ham was a game that many were expecting to pick up points from, given their rocky start to the season, but the guile of Craig Bellamy coupled with Colin Doyle’s experience proved to be Blues’ undoing and two ‘winnable’ games yielded only one point.

The next encounter at Pride Park had already become a six-pointer and at least they went home with the three points.

Consistency was a problem for Birmingham last season though and Saturday’s encounter with Boro was no exception. The criticisms that have been levelled at the team so far sound strikingly familiar; lack of commitment and lack of ideas being two of many possibles.

There is a possibility that Boro was a temporary setback. At least there is two weeks to set things right. If not, it’s like that there will be more comments flung in the manager’s direction.
