Blues All Rover The Place

Last night was a very bad night at the office. It`s rare to see a Gary Rowett team lack any sort of cohesion and organisation. But that has been the case in two successive away games.

Last night`s performance at Ewood Park was by far Blues` worst of the season. The first half was as bad as I have seen a Blues team. We made Blackburn look good. To concede the first goal in the manner that we did was Sunday league stuff. Why Michael Morrison let the ball bounce when under pressure is anyone`s guess – and so unlike him.

The second goal was another in a long line of bad refereeing decisions. Clayton Donaldson, clean through on goal with only the ‘keeper to beat, was bundled over – the referee waves the penalty appeals away. Rovers lump the ball up the pitch, Danny Graham chases it and thumps it home. Two-nil.

We can sit here and talk about bad officiating until the cows come home but that would be papering over Blues` shoddy defending. Despite the penalty not being given, Blues should have remained switched on. It was too easy for Paul Lambert`s side last night.

The half time substitution improved Blues very slightly. Maikel Kieftenbeld had a shocker and was understandably withdrawn at the interval for Diego Fabbrini. The Italian gave Blues a bit of life which was severely lacking in the first half.

Despite a goalmouth scramble resulting in nothing and Jonathan Grounds hitting the bar, Blues couldn`t find a way through – the fourth consecutive away trip in which Rowett`s men have fired blanks. In 60 games at Ewood Park, Blues have never kept a clean sheet.

Luckily for Blues, most of the other results went in their favour. However, the defeat means the derby at Wolves becomes even bigger than it already was.
