Last nights win for Birmingham City against Blackburn Rovers continued to show our ability to bounce back after the Leeds United game.
This season after disappointing defeats, especially away from home, the team have produced a winning response. When that happens fans get that feeling that the players hurt as much as them and want to get out there and produce. Although slender margins last night proved similar, with the odd goal.
Nothing new, but so long as it’s in our favour, who cares.
What is pleasing is the way Crowley and Bellingham work together, both clever players with each improving with playing time – Bellingham a real gem and Crowley who has a bit of the Archie Gemmill about him – proving the ‘live wire’ that we as fans love to watch.
Winning or losing is what we are doing so far this season, with only one draw to show for our efforts, but that’s fine so long as the bouncing back continues. The league table indicates that Blues have a small gap on those below us, if we want to achieve a lofty position and cement a place in the coveted area that our hierarchy dearly want. This obviously can be achieved but staying there is the key.
Fans always want strikers and we are no different especially when they can see a gap that needs filling. Jutkiewicz needs a partner and we know it. The majority of the squad is in decent shape and whilst that is pleasing, we task only one thing from Clotet and co and he obviously knows it.
In recent seasons there have been a few teams who have ‘run away’ at the top end of the table by now, but this season it hasn’t happened. Looking at the table you have to look twice to take in the tantalising ‘what if’ situation if we win the next few games. We are near the summit but do we believe we can go higher and stay there?
Victory against Luton would certainly create a totally different outlook and yes pressure would be on Clotet to stay there, but for once this league is crying out for a new leader of the pack. Sheffield Wednesday and Monk recognise it so why can’t we. Both our teams are not great but the way things are shaping up then this season could be the one when it is literally ‘up for grabs’ – the promised land.
