Sky Bet League One side Blackburn Rovers are still in the race to sign Birmingham City midfielder Jason Lowe, Vital Birmingham understands.

The former Rovers midfielder has been linked with a move back to the side that he left less than six months ago and with Blues manager Steve Cotterill looking to make room in the squad for new additions, Lowe could be the next player out the door at St.Andrew’s.

Earlier this week Stephen Gleeson left Blues to join fellow Sky Bet Championship side Ipswich Town meaning that along with Lowe, Blues only have four other first team midfielder, three of which are fit at the moment, so a creative midfielder is top of Cotterill’s shopping list.

Allowing Lowe to leave would once again free up more wages for Blues to put towards a new midfielder and should Lowe complete his move to Blackburn next week, Blues will be hopeful of securing their first piece of business in the January transfer window before their fourth round FA Cup tie with Premier League side Huddersfield Town.

However, despite being confident of getting the deal over the line, Rovers are also keeping tabs on other targets.
