Birmingham’s Christmas Cheer Must Start At Hull

|

Whatever is written, talked about or debated in homes, pubs, and workplaces etc, winning games by scoring goals is literally the ultimate aim in football. Birmingham City start their Christmas programme away at Hull City hoping to stop the run of defeats, a venue that hasn’t yielded much in recent years.

However, it is an opportunity to at least try and get some reward. Blackburn away is the Boxing Day game and, like the Hull game, there is the same opportunity to gain points. We need good fortune on the way but above all we need goals.

This is where the team selection is paramount for every member of the coaching team. Play the best strike force and stick with it – easier said than done I readily admit. My own personal choice would be to revert to a more tried and tested formation with what we have, bearing in mind Hull have Bowen scoring goals for fun and likewise Dack for Blackburn. Therefore ditch any thoughts of playing Gimenez alongside Juke and play any decent paced player instead.

This could be Bela or Maghoma. Montero, I do not trust.

We have limited resources whichever forwards we choose, but it is now becoming quite serious as to the number of defeats we can now take. Draws from now on will be acceptable and ease the plummeting down the table.

Should our owners see a chink of hope in January with a striker bid then great, but as we stand I for one will be happy for a stress free middle of the table second half to the season.
