Birmingham Weighing Up Move For Latvian Under 19 International

|

The club has been taking a look at Latvian goalkeeper Rihards Matrevics, according to the Birmingham Mail.

The 19-year-old is on trial at the club with his contract at West Ham expiring in the summer. He is an impressive figure at 6ft 7 but his development this season at club level has stalled, and he is likely to move on.

The Latvian Under 19 international played for Birmingham’s Under 23s against Bolton last week and again in the draw versus Crystal Palace yesterday

He was promoted to Hammers’ Under 23 side this campaign but has been mostly an understudy to England U20 stopper Nathan Trott.

The teenager has played just one Premier League 2 match this season in the 3-1 defeat to Leicester City back in September, and was on the bench for most of West Ham academy’s games in the EFL Trophy.

Most of his game time has been for the Under 18s, with 30 appearances in total during his time with the Hammers, conceding 52 goals and keeping seven clean sheets.
