We are tracking Sheffield Wednesday midfielder Barry Bannan, according to the Sheffield Star.

Garry Monk’s former club Middlesbrough are also interested in the Scottish international, but it is not yet known whether the Owls would consider bids for the 28-year-old.

The playmaker is one of Wednesday’s top earners, and they may consider offloading the player to stay within Financial Fair Play regulations.

However, Bannan’s salary would also likely be a concern for us as well. We have been looking to sell off stars like David Stockdale in no small part because of their wages so any pursuit of the Scotsman would need to take this into consideration.

Last season, the midfield player played 31 times in all competitions, scoring once and providing three assists. He was out injured with a hip injury for three months between December and March which did disrupt his season.

In the 2016/17 campaign, Bannan made eight assists and was one of Carlos Carvalhal’s main creative outlets as Wednesday finished fourth.

  • I doubt Bannen will join Blues as he hates us from his Villa days.
It is almost as unlikely as Blues signing Agbonlahor.

  • Getting fed up with all this speculation and cheap paper talk over players.Get something concrete before publishing.

  • Stop making up this rubbish, what in heavens name would Baz go to either of those clubs, give it one more year and if we don’t go up they will all go, have heart, if Cardiff can do it with that team any one can.

  • It’s all just Hearsay none of it is actually true. I think most of us signings are going to be those who are not actually links. Pedersen was not linked but he is just a formality now to sign for the club which just shows that none of the linked players are actually what we are going for.

  • Yet another furphy – it will be another Arry style panic buy at the end of the window importing another load of cr*p players. God I hope I am wrong!!
