Birmingham Urged To Attack

Northampton Mid Darren Carter has called for all out attack in the Birmingham derby this Saturday, not quite sure that is how it will happen.

“I know how football is, managers have their agendas and most of the time the league is going to be the priority,”

“But Saturday is going to be a packed house, West Brom are taking a huge following and I would hope both clubs and managers think ‘Let`s go for it` and field as strong an XI as they both can and really give the FA Cup and the game the respect it deserves.

Going for it wouldn’t really fit Birmingham’s set up. Playing on the break requires the other team to go for it. If Baggies do take Carter’s advice I would fancy us to hurt them.

Despite what Darren would like, I do think Rowett will be eager for his team to keep their structure, track back and work hard defensively before going forward.

“If both clubs are going for it it is going to be a really fantastic occasion – one I`m sorry to miss.

“I watched the draw on TV and when this tie came out I hoped it was going to be moved for TV because I`ll be playing on Saturday. In that respect I`d love a draw because I could get to the replay at The Hawthorns.”

Rather selfish but I understand the thought in it. A replay could well be a good thing for Blues, assuming that game time is more important than progression.

A replay could mean more games for the fringe players, however we are less likely to win at the Hawthorns.

‘It was with a heavy heart that I left Blues. It seems a lifetime ago now but it was all I had ever known growing up ever since I could kick a ball.

“It`s always been a good derby. I have watched them as a fan and played in them as a player.

“Going from Blues to Albion was fine because the rivalry was never that aggressive.

“Both teams want to win and both sets of fans want to get one over on the other – but it`s not a vicious relationship. I don`t think there`s that hatred that maybe there is in some rivalries.

He is quite right, for me anyway, I don’t get that hatred feeling between these two sets of fans. I rather expect the game to go off as a good example of how a friendly rivalry should play out.

Will we go all out? I don’t think so, but what do I know!
