The young Blues got off to a shocking start, to match that of the first team on Monday night. With just three minutes on the clock,Luke Keen easily by-passed the full-back, before placing the ball past Connal Trueman. 1-0.

This spurred the Blues on. Within minutes they had equalised. Nat Kelly, who is known for his poaching, benefited from a spell of pin ball in the Romulus box. He poked home the ball. 1-1.

Blues were creating constant chances now. Reece Brown and Viv Solomon both coming close but the ball drifted wide on both occasions. The keeper still hadn’t been tested.

Romulus keeper Maxime Fondop was on fine form. The youngster saved twice from Nasseri, after he was put through with a fabulous ball from Bobby Moseley. Half an hour gone and the Blues were on top.

Again, the hosts keeper preserved the 1-1 scoreline. This time, Charlee Adams shot from distance, he gratefully held onto.

However, he couldn’t prevent the Blues taking the lead in the 69th minute. Solomon with a jinking run created space before passing the ball for Luke Armstrong to sweep home from 6 yards out. 1-2 to Blues and well deserved.

Romulus pushed and pushed for a goal after this. They piled men forward but the Birmingham defence matched them on every move.

With Romulus pushing men forward, Blues counter attacked. Reece Webb almost stretched the lead, but his effort cannoned off the post.

1-2 the final score, with Birmingham City progressing to the next round of the Birmingham Senior Cup.
