Birmingham Trail Championship Rival For England U20 International – Report

|

Bolton Wanderers are leading Bristol City, Hull City and us in the battle to sign Everton central midfielder Joe Williams on loan, according to the Football Insider.

Reporter Pete O’Rourke states that the Trotters are confident of tying up a deal for the 21-year-old before the loan window closes on August 31st. It’s not believed that the offer has a purchase clause.

Williams spent a year on loan at Barnsley last season where he played 38 games in all competitions. He was mostly utilised as a holding midfielder, scoring one goal and picking up ten yellow cards.

He is capable of playing in a more advanced role, and with Garry Monk looking for another central midfielder, the England Under 20 international could well be an option he is considering.

Due to an EFL ruling, we can only sign one more player either on loan or on a free transfer this summer. From the looks of things, it won’t be Williams but there’s no doubting that we’ll want the strengthen the centre of midfield before the end of the month.
