Birmingham to Miss Out on Keeper

Possible Birmingham City target, Brad Jones, won’t be joining the club after reports in the Nottingham Post claim the keeper is close to signing for Championship rivals, Forest.

The 33 year old was released from his Anfield contract at the end of the season and it seems certain that he will be dropping down to the Championship in a bid to end his career playing first team football.

Jones spent 5 years at Liverpool after joining for £2.3 million in 2010 from Middlesbrough.

Birmingham City are desperate for a first team keeper after the departure of their first choice started, Darren Randolph. The Irishman has opted to become the backup keeper at West Ham behind Adrian.

It is most likely that Birmingham only ever stood a marginal chance of securing Jones’ signature as it has been understood he has always preferred Nottingham Forest as a destination.

Given that there are plenty of reports coming in that Blues are looking at other keepers, it would be reasonable to assume that the club are no longer apart of negotiations for Jones; assuming they had indeed enquired about him in he first place.

Jones would have been a good signing, at a bargain price, given his current situation. But when a deal presents such value for money there will always be competition to sign the player. Jones’ wage demands more than likely made this one a non-starter for Rowett.
