Birmingham City boss Alex McLeish is thought to be contemplating a January swoop for Derby County striker Kenny Miller.

The former Celtic, Rangers and Wolves hit-man is thought to be surplus to requirements at Pride Park as the Premier League’s worst-ever club are reportedly already looking to offload their highest earners ahead of relegation.

Scotland international Miller, 27, joined Derby from Celtic on deadline day in August but has struggled to make much of an impression – though that may say more about the lack of quality players surrounding him than his own ability.

Rangers are also thought to be pondering a bid next month, though their transfer plans may depend on whether they qualify for the last-16 of the Champions League tonight.
