Birmingham Striker Clayton Donaldson will return to the team for tomorrows Championship game against Sheffield Wednesday. Blues top scorer was left out of Blues v Baggies.

Rowett argues that the game would not have gone any differently had he played his in form front man against WBA in the FA Cup.

‘I didn`t think it would make a lot of difference to our performance in the game and in hindsight I genuinely don`t think it would have done,’

Not sure how certain Rowett can be about this. Donaldson has been doing well lately and has been popping up in the right places and picking up goals. Goals change games right?

‘If you look at the way West Brom played, they dropped in and made it very difficult for us to have any space.

‘I think whoever played up front it would have been very difficult for them to have a real impact on the game so early on.

West Brom wanted to make it difficult for Birmingham. A typical tactic of Tony Pulis and it worked to some extent for the first half. Blues were very slow into the game.

‘As a manager you have to make decisions. Some of the fans are going to accept it, some of the fans are going to understand it and some of them are not going to like it.

‘I respect everyone`s opinion but I`m not going to be swayed by that.

‘I just think if we look at the game we still had a really good chance of getting back into it.’

Birmingham worked the game management aspect really well, they pushed on and really pressed for an equaliser during the closing stages of the game. It made for a good cup tie.

‘We go into Tuesday with a little bit more of a fresher squad,’ he said.

‘That was decision I made and that`s football.

‘I`m sure when Clayton laces his boots up on Tuesday night he`ll probably be thankful that he feels a little bit fresher than some of the others.’

I’m hopeful that Clayton Donaldson will be improved in two ways. One, he must be fresher for the next game which just so happens to come tomorrow (pretty early on). And secondly, he should be itching to score some goals, he was left out of an FA cup game and should be to some extent disappointed about that.
