Birmingham have announced that they have signed free agent Denny Johnstone from Celtic on a three year deal. The two clubs had been negotiating a compensation fee for some weeks now and Lee Clark has finally strapped down his 11th signing of the summer.

The 19 year old has been on trial at Wast Hills for the past week and impressed Clark. The blues` boss has said to the official website:

‘The board have backed me because I feel the boy can offer future value to the squad.’

He also mentioned that two Scottish Premiership clubs wanted to tie down the youngster and their first choice striker. Johnstone has made 6 caps for Scotland u19s and was a regular in Celtic`s ‘UEFA Youth League` side last year.

With Johnstone coming in, Blues now 5 strikers consisting of Lee Novak, Wes Thomas, Clayton Donaldson and Matt Green. Having performed so well in pre-season, I`m guessing Donaldson will start but am unsure to who will partner him.

Lee Clark has said he wants to use the 4-4-2 formation so the fans can expect something different this year, maybe a more attack minded side.
Johnstone`s main attributes are holding the ball up, movement around the box and a predatory instinct. He will wear the number 16 shirt this season.
