Birmingham City look set to announce the signing of Seb Hines from Middlesbrough for an undisclosed fee, although it is not a done deal yet, we understand.
The 26 year old began his career at Middlesbrough and has spent loan spells with both Derby and Oldham. He has made a total of 69 league appearances for Middlesbrough, scoring three goals.
It was beginning to look apparent that Birmingham would dip into the transfer market after Gavin Gunning was ruled out for the remainder of the season after injuring his knee on his full debut.
After Birmingham were battered 4-0 against Wigan it was also evident that something had to be done. Blues back up defenders clearly may not be able to cut it as the season goes on.
Hines actually played against Lee Clark’s side in Middlesbrough`s 2-0 win over Birmingham at the start of the season. He has also played in their win over Bolton and their loss to Reading last Saturday. Hines will join up with Birmingham subject to a medial and confirmation of the deal.
Blues play Leeds next in the Sky Bet Championship, Hines may come in to partner Hall at centre back as Edgar moves back into midfield at the expense of Gleeson.
