The club look set to miss out on QPR goalkeeper Alex Smithies with Sky Sports News reporting that he is closing in on a move to Cardiff City.

Last month, it was reported by journalist Alan Nixon that we were considering the 28-year-old as a possible replacement for David Stockdale but the Bluebirds look to have stolen a march with a £4m bid.

The offer for the keeper has reportedly been accepted by QPR and it seems that a move to the Premier League is imminent.

We have yet to make a move for new number one this transfer window, and it’s likely because we haven’t been able to offload Stockdale yet.

The 32-year-old has been heavily linked with a switch to Leeds but the Whites’ new manager Marcelo Bielsa has seemingly distanced the club from making many signings this summer.

The Argentinian coach was quoted as saying that the Yorkshire club were “not intending to bring too many new faces in,” although that doesn’t preclude a move for a new goalkeeper.

  • I very much doubt we would pay 4m for a keeper as would be the case with the majority of championship clubs, so why would we believe the rumor to have any substance in the first place. I don’t think we will pay much for a keeper and think its more likely we will take one on loan, as we have done on may occasions over the years.

  • What I find quite sad and disappointing is the way Stockdale has been almost banished from the club.It appears obvious that behind the scenes something is not right with this player which probably accounts for Chris Hughton taking similar action a year ago.As regards new goalkeepers,I have to admit those mentioned in the media do not inspire me much. What I would like is a good solid defence and a decent keeper who not necessarily needs to be a household name. Monk I trust fully and so far Pedersen at left back and Colin at right suits me fine. Harding,Dean,Morrison and Roberts to choose from gives our manager the confidence to get a younger talented keeper that none of us has heard of.

  • I personally think getting rid of stock is the right thing overweight clearly it was all about money why would you turn down a newly promoted club for a championship in the first place maybe he’s bad for moral too because the money he’s on I trust gaz completely

  • We was never in for Smithies in the first place. Stockdale is apparently a troublemaker in the dressing room and in training. A problematic big big head. Not the team player.. so we need a new keeper we don’t need to Truman could step up as backup and he could get some Cup matches to give him some more experience.
