Birmingham Remain Patient

Birmingham City boss Gary Rowett has spoken to bcfc.com to explain the thinking behind his transfer dealings. Blues fans have had to be patient under Rowett as signings took time to complete. Some still wanted more on deadline day.

The manager pointed to players such as Maikel Kieftenbeld as successes in his dealings. He said ‘by waiting and being patient you make sure you get the right type of player’.

The squad at Birmingham is smaller than most others and although the club are on a tight budget, the numbers are a result of a design plan put in place for long term success. Having huge numbers brings problems in Rowett’s opinion.

In respect of the targets Blues missed out on during this window, it seems the manager thinks that when it came down to it, the club just couldn’t compete financially.

‘So we wait and I fully expect when the window reopens we will be in a much, much stronger position’.

Patience is emerging as a key talking point for Rowett and so far he is certainly proving himself to be right. Birmingham can’t just go and get the players they target so must wait and ensure they’re ready when the right deal presents itself. Had Blues panicked and bought in various players to cover positions, they wouldn’t have the space to bring in a key player when the deal became apparent.

Playing the waiting game might just pay off this season.
