Birmingham City have rejected a £3.5 million bid for their young winger Demarai Gray after Bournemouth made another approach for the youngster.

The bid is believed to have been £3 million up front with half a million to be added on. Bournemouth seem desperate to land the winger but it’s beginning to look like they don’t want to spend the cash.

Their last bid was also rejected at £2 million and the one before that at £1.5 million.

It is not secret that around £5 million is what is needed to even tempt the Midlands side into letting another one of their academy graduates go.

As this window goes on it is becoming to look like there will be a big fight on Blues hands to keep the player. Which is really disappointing from a supporter’s point of view. You want this notion of the club succeeding based on its local resources and seeing one of your own make it, alas that’s far to romantic for the world of business.

Will Bournemouth eventually open their wallet or are they going to drag this out until a big club comes in and pays the money for him.

It is looking like he will go, the club have confirmed there are a lot of clubs looking at him and that have already had a look at him. I get the feeling there are a few serious bidders waiting in the shadows and letting Bournemouth take the PR hits with rejected bids.

Meanwhile we wait to see if Gray will be deployed in the derby game on Saturday. Rowett is expected to make changes to the squad in what is a busy period for the team.
