Birmingham Reject £2m Bournemouth Offer

Birmingham City have confirmed that they have rejected a £2 million pound bid for winger Demarai Gray.

The young winger has been the subject of increased transfer speculation since before the window opened. Gray is highly thought of at Birmingham and has now caught the eye of several other clubs.

Bournemouth are the only club to make an offer so far with this latest improvement. It is still short of what Birmingham want for the player.

I suspect there are more clubs interested in Gray but they are waiting for someone to have a bid accepted. In order to keep it as private as possible they may just be lying under the radar at the moment.

Will he still be here when the window closes? well what we do know is it will be a long draw out process if the bids are going up in £500,000 a time.

Birmingham branded the last offer of £1.5 as insulting as this latest bid is hardly any higher. I suspect a bid of above £4 is required to make Birmingham consider the player’s future.

What was concerning about the deal was that the board rejected the offer but did not inform manager Gary Rowett of the offer. I worry that this may work the other way around if the player is let go.

Other sections of the media, or even sources close to the buying club will know before Rowett and we do. Unacceptable in my eyes.

If Gray is to go, we want to know about it and we want to be in the loop. If Mr Pavlakis is reading this article, please don’t cloak any bids like your predecessor did.

Finally, I’m a bid believer in no one player is vital to a team. Yes we shouldn’t sell, but if we do, let us not over react, we have a fantastic team effort going on and we’ll be fine.
