Nikola Zigic has resigned for Birmingham following a training period back at the club.
The deal will run until the end of the season for the 34 year old. Birmingham are now going to apply for a work permit for him, which should be sorted out in the next week.
Birmingham are short of numbers up front with just Wes Thomas and Clayton Donaldson being available for most of the season. Zigic also offers something very different to both Donaldson and Thomas, Blues now have another tactical capability.
The deal comes just before the busy Christmas period that will see the full numbers of the squad put to the test. I see this as a useful addition in giving some of the other guys less pressure to perform over such a tiring period of games.
Zigic will no doubt have taken a pay cut to come back to the club. It is not possible to say whether they have allowed him to have a wage that is above the £5k cap but it is possible. Donaldson is on a similar deal.
The Serbia international came to Birmingham in a £6 million deal. He went on to make 128 league appearances for the club, scoring 33 goals. His most memorable goals were his 3 in the winning league cup run.
