Birmingham City (14th) host Blackburn (10th) tonight in the Sky Bet Championship. Gary Rowett’s men are on the back of a big win against local neighbors Wolves, whilst Blackburn are looking to continue their positive away form.

The home side has won 2 games in a row at home (2-1 Rotherham & Wolves) and they have won 4 out of their last 6. St Andrews’ is certainly becoming a happy hunting ground for Blues under Rowett.

There is still work to be done in terms of finding a the right tactics to toppled the lower teams here but there is certainly progress being made at the club.

By contrast Blackburn are doing reasonably well themselves, although they would probably prefer to be a little closer to the play-offs than they are now.

These two sides aren’t a million miles apart and both would be capable of taking 3 points from tonight’s game.

Blackburn’s danger man is probably going to be Rudy Gestede. A big strong centre forward that always seems to cause Birmingham plenty of problems when he comes to play at St Andrews.

The visitors will certainly come at Blues and try to create chances. They’re strong in the air and favor using set pieces to get their goals.

The Rovers also have a tenacious midfield that are always eager to win the ball back in dangerous areas. Blues will need to be careful that they aren’t caught in possession often tonight.

However, I do think this is going to be a game where Birmingham come out on top. Blackburn are weak on the counter attack and this just so happens to be one of Blues strong points.

Provided we take the chances that come our way, when we break on Blackburn, then I think this one could end up a very good victory for the home side.

Team news

Rowett looks to have almost a full squad to choose form for this one and has said he is considering changing it round in order to freshen things up.

However Blues are on the back of a very impressive win and he may want to see that group continue forward.

Rudy Gestede and Craig Conway both return for Rovers.
