Birmingham Pleased With Dyer Signing

“We fought off interest from at least four or five other Championship clubs and it`s a real feather in our cap that we`re able to attract someone like him and he wants to come to us and I see that as a real positive,”

In terms of the kind of player I expect to see coming through the door, this is certainly in excess of that. We’ve not seen players of this reputation since the signings towards the ends of the Premier League team.

With all the respect in the world to the players we’ve had over the past few years, it has been loans in order to develop them for another team (Huws is now at Wigan) or players coming in from lower leagues.

“The board have backed me fantastically well. Panos (Pavlakis) agreed the deal and ultimately it is quite a big deal for us financially and that`s another positive.

“It`s a good sign and long may that continue that we`re able to compete against other teams that perhaps can offer more money than us. The board have been brilliant in terms of backing one or two of our ideas.”

Are Birmingham pushing the boat out? if so how so? it is difficult to know just what he means by that statement but if he feels that he is getting the right financial backing we have to be positive about that.

‘Lloyd is someone that we`ve been looking at for a while, I probably enquired about him a good six weeks ago.

“You`re always looking for little gaps in the squad and we haven`t got a natural left-footed left-winger who can give us a little bit of balance on that side in certain games.

“I think he also adds some blistering pace which Dimmy gives us but we haven`t got elsewhere.

“I felt we needed another one in those three positions behind the front man and Lloyd is a very good acquisition. In my mind he`s certainly not been brought in to replace Demarai. I desperately hope he`s an addition come the end of the month rather than a replacement.

Well there we have it, it is hoped that this is an addition to the attacking threat that Blues have not a replacement. It might be interesting to see how Blues attack the closing stages of a game with this added pace.

Could someone like Shinnie or even Cotterill be swapped for out and out pace if Blues are under some pressure towards the closing stages? It seems like Rowett wants to play that way when the time comes.

“We`ve got a lot of games coming up and you`re asking a lot from those wide players in terms of getting back into their defensive shape and then breaking quickly up the pitch.

“So I think we just need another player in those positions to give us that ability to maybe mix and match occasionally and keep that freshness going and keep those players full of energy.

“Someone like Lloyd also has the ability to pick the ball up deep and run at pace at people and I think there are one or two people that wouldn`t like to be defending one v one against him when he`s on form.

“In one or two of the games we haven`t had that quick impact off the bench and I remember Demarai coming on in a game and the whole place lit up for 20 minutes because his pace caused lots of problems.”

If Gray is to go, maybe Dyer will be a great replacement. But for now, it looks like Rowett wants all of his attacking options ready and fresh. Maybe another one would come in if Gray was to end up outgoing.
