Burton Albion have given Birmingham City permission to talk to Gary Rowett about becoming the new manager at St Andrews.

Rowett has done an impressive job at Burton, guiding them to two place off finishes in recent years. He also has a lasting connection with the midlands club and would be making his return to St Andrews.

He has already discussed his feelings on the move and made it clear that he would be interested in making the switch to St Andrews. A young talented manager, with fresh ideas and hopefully a more solid approach to defending.

Birmingham are rumored to be speaking with Owen Coyle and Mike Phelan as well. Panos Pavlakis wants to meet with all three before making a decision on who is right to take the club forward.

It will more than likely take us into next week, given that Pavlakis will need at least three days to meet with the candidates.

The bookies seem to think Rowett is the man to get the nob, but as we know in football that any decision could come as a surprise.

Birmingham meanwhile have points to earn, after a disappointing loss to Blackburn they host Bournemouth on Saturday.
