Birmingham Not Hunting a Defender

Birmingham will not be signing a new defender for the time being despite missing out on Rob Kiernan earlier in the transfer window. Gary Rowett feels the club have enough in that position that could see Edgar brought back into the fray.

So, what happened? Well it sounds like Blues were prepared to bring in Kiernan as he’d done well during his loan spell and Rowett at the time (last season) may of had less faith in Spector; Edgar and Robinson.

Having now seen much more of them it seems that the Blues manager is happy to begin the season with either Spector or Edgar pairing up with Michael Morrison at the heart of the Blues defence.

Last season Blues were in trouble and Rowett had to act quickly, and it kind of makes sense to come in and wonder about the defenders given that Blues had been absolutely terrible in that respect.

Now, with the situation far more calm and under control it would seem the players have done enough to convince Rowett that elsewhere is more of a priority.

What this also suggests is that there isn’t probably enough in the budget to add another defender without someone leaving, or there isn’t enough to add another signing after the ones Rowett is already after.

David Edgar’s position has been clarified by the club, ‘Everyone starts with a clean slate’ Rowett said. Although he is set to miss most of pre-season away on international duty.

That there enlies the hint that it will probably be a Spector/Morrison partnership to begin the season with.

So, who do you want to see at the back, now that you know the options?
