Birmingham City upset the odds as they pulled off a surprise win to knock Watford from the top of the table in the Championship.

Two goals from Clayton Donaldson saw Blues overcome a high quality side from the division. It was a controlled and dominant display that would suggest that I dare to say – there is more to come from this side under Rowett.

The first action of the goal was Clayton Donaldson fortunately forcing the ball home from a Stephen Gleeson shot just 2 minutes into the game.

Watford hit back immediately, though. Fernando Forestieri got to Lloyd Doyley’s cross who save his effort saved by Randolph, only to score the follow up.

Blues continued to threaten with a wide header from Shinnie and a close effort from Cotterill on the half an hour mark.

The Watford keeper would remain busy up until half time, Cotterill with a free kick and then again with a low drive into the box.

Gleeson would have an effort from 20 yards sting the goalkeepers gloves before half time.

There were plenty more attempts for Birmingham as they pressed for a winner. Cotterill continued to threaten with free kicks and crosses. One found Arthur and then the head of Donaldson in the Watford box before it was cleared.

It was Blues who would grab the winner late one. 85 minutes played and Clayton Donaldson met a brilliant ball from Cotterill and headed in expertly.

The game was then seen out well and Blues picked up a tremendous home win.
