Will Packwood will miss up to six weeks of football after injuring his groin on his debut at League Two Colchester.

The American U21 international was sent out on loan to try and further his development before it was cut short in what was a horrifying afternoon.

It is understood that the young professional is extremely unhappy with the timing of the injury and is eager to play games away from Birmingham.

Gary Rowett said on bcfc.com

‘Unfortunately for Will he played in what was probably the most bizarre game he’ll ever play in,’ added Rowett. ‘Colchester lost 6-0, and in giving away a penalty and being sent off away he actually tore his groin and he’s out for about six weeks..

‘He’s come back pretty low as you’d imagine, but I’ve told him that`s football life and you just have to pick yourself up and tick it off as one of your experiences and use it to go and be a better and stronger player. He`s a young lad and he wants to play games, but unfortunately for him and Colchester that loan hasn’t worked out as they’d hoped.’

Packwood is unlikely to feature at Birmingham with competition in defence hotting up with the likes of David Edgar and Grant Hall sitting on the bench. Packwood currently has 18 league appearances for Birmingham City.
