Birmingham City could be interested in a former Celtic youth striker, it has emerged. The 19 year old burly striker has been training with the team for a week.

Denny Johnstone is understood to have impressed during the week and took part in the training game that took place yesterday. Birmingham were playing an 11 a-side training game due to Nottinghamshire Police putting a costly bill on the Mansfield v Birmingham game; causing the game to be cancelled.

Johnstone has been recommended to Blues by new development coach Alan Thompson, formerly at Celtic and knows all about the young striker. The player has performed well for Celtic and had interested Dundee United before they deemed to compensation package potentially too large.

It is unclear is Blues will be willing to take on the forward as players that young are subject to a compensation agreement between the clubs that could well be taken to a tribunal.

Birmingham continue to look for a striker as Matt Green is some way from being in full training and then even further away from match fitness. Lee Clark`s men take on Kidderminster Harriers next Saturday.

Vital Birmingham does not claim to own this video or the rights to it.
