Birmingham Clear of Transfer Embargo

Birmingham City were not subjected to a transfer embargo today despite claims from former acting chairman Peter Pannu.

Under the new rules clubs are not allowed to lose more than £8 million in a financial year without being subject to restrictions.

These include:

– Being prevented from paying transfer fees
– Transfering players on a one in – one out basis
– Only being able to bring in players once the squad has less than 24 players.

Rumors surfaced that Blues would be hit by the Football League after an impending tax bill would send the club into financial ruin. This of course has not been the case and the club confirmed this when the original story broke.

Birmingham’s finances are no longer as shaky as before after lost of efficiency cuts. By this I mean, key players have been sold and lots of larger wages have been offloaded (Burke, Ziggy and so on).

With January just around the corner Birmingham seem like they will be able to bring in a few faces. And some may well leave.

Centre back is a position that needs addressing, whether that sees Morrison stay or not remains to be seen. From what we’re being told it looks like it is in the pipeline.

Blues desperately need some back up for Shinnie and that is most likely Rowett’s main concern after wrapping up a Morrison deal.

Financially and footballing-wise, Birmingham seem to be not only leveling out but improving.
