The list of players linked with a summer move to Birmingham City is growing by the day with French striker Lois Diony the latest man rumoured to be on Harry Redknapp`s radar.

The 24-year-old scored 11 goals and assisted eight last season as he helped Ligue 1 side Dijon retain their status in the top flight of French football.

At a first glance, Diony is a player that we’d all jump at the chance to sign. He’s got pace, quick feet, strength and his eye for goal and creativity is there for all to see.

However, after such an impressive season in one of Europe`s top leagues, there will be a host of clubs after his signature with most of them playing at a higher level than Blues.

Premier League Bournemouth were rumoured to be interested in him a few weeks ago where it was reported that Dijon were demanding £13m for their prized asset.

The £3m fee stated in yesterday’s story will almost certainly not be enough for a man with plenty of admirers.

If there is substance to his link to Blues then Harry Redknapp will no doubt have his work cut out when attempting to lure him to the club.

Our saving grace, may however, be agent Darren Dein who the Birmingham Mail reported yesterday as someone working alongside Redknapp and Jeff Vetere in the transfer window.

His contacts within European football and his relationship with Thierry Henry may give Blues a boost in their pursuit of Diony and other summer targets.

This could well explain the rumours linking Blues with French talent such as Diony and Ferland Mendy.

It is an extreme long shot for Blues to pull off any sort of deal for Diony but, who knows, with Harry Redknapp at the helm and with help from those working alongside him, anything could happen.

It’s exciting to see Blues being linked with players of this quality so let’s just hope that some sort of magic can be worked with the hope that a deal could well be pulled off.
