Wast Hills was the venue for the latest U18 match to take place. The youngsters were on a bit of a winning streak and hoped to continue this with a win against Barnsley.

The wind was really causing havoc throughout the game. But this didn’t deter the boys, who looked assured all the way through the game. They looked very composed in the opening exchanges and deservedly took the lead.

Iyamu stuck a fierce shot into the goal half way through the first 45. 1-0 to the Blues’.

Unfortunately, the luck seemed to be in favour of the visitors. Completely against the run of play, they scored an equaliser. Not fair on the Birmingham City players but could they bounce back?

The answer was yes. Martin and Hale fired 2 goals in quick succession which gave a cushion in terms of the scoreline. According to the official bcfc.com website, Martin’s headed goal was the first time he had found the back of the net for the Under-18s and it was Hales 9th goal in just 11 games.

The 3-1 victory meant that the team had won 3 times in the space of a week, not bad going! What I have noticed, is that this team like to keep the ball and not force anything until the time is right and then everyone will have an intensity change. This is so hard to defend against and it really is a credit to the coaching staff to make this achievable.
