Birmingham City will back Gianfranco Zola to lead the club into next season, a source close to the club has claimed.

The Italian, who has won only two of his 22 games in charge since taking over in December, is likely to be given the finances and the backing to rebuild the squad in the summer – assuming they remain a Championship club.

The club’s owners, Trillion Trophy Asia, still retain unwavering faith in Zola and believe he is the right man for the job. But a good start to next season is vital for Zola’s tenure.

It’s likely that Zola will be given the full support of the board as he looks to continue with his development of the playing philosophy.

When asked, the source didn’t confirm whether relegation this season would mean Zola falling on his sword but did confirm that the club ‘have every intention’ of sticking with the 50 year-old for ‘the foreseeable future’.
