With the speculation surrounding Birmingham City Football Club at the moment in regards to former Chelsea captain John Terry supposedly ready to sign for the club, there may come a time where Blues have to look elsewhere for defenders.

So far this summer Blues and Harry Redknapp have been linked with a handful of other centre backs as options to compete with what the club already have.

Newcastle United centre half Grant Hanley, Barnsley’s Marc Roberts and the previously mentioned Terry have been the names that seem to have stuck with the club at the moment but could there be other defenders out there that are on Redknapp’s wishlist?

I think there must be because he has to have back ups if the ones he is targeting don’t materialise into something.

With that being said, I have identified West Bromwich Albion defender Craig Dawson as a potential target that could interest Blues if they are willing to splash the cash on a centre back.

Dawson, 27, is believed to be discussing a new contract with West Brom but he hasn’t yet signed one and with just one year left on his current deal, if the Baggies can’t come to an agreement with him, they could well look to sell him on.

Last season, Dawson played 39 games in all competitions for West Brom making him one of the most consistent names on the team sheet. During those games, he found the back of the net four times, including a brace against Arsenal in a 3-1 win, and he also picked up 10 yellow cards.

According to trasnfermarkt.co.uk, Dawson has a market value of around £5.5 million meaning that is would be around the same mark as Roberts and Hanley so he could well be an option for Blues but it would be whether he could be convinced to move down to the Championship.

Blues fans, would you like to see the club launch another ambitious bid for somebody like Craig Dawson? Let us know in the comment section down below!
