Gianfranco Zola is targeting Preston North End play maker Daniel Johnson to bolster his creative ranks next season. The 25 year-old midfielder has played 99 times for the Deepdale club since joining from Aston Villa just over two years ago and has impressed with his dynamic displays this season.

With two years left on his current contract, Blues would have to pay in excess of £1.5m for his services and would face a battle for his signature.

The Kingston born player scored against Blues during the 2-2 draw St. Andrews back in September and picked up the man of the match award. More recently, he was part of the Preston team which beat Blues 2-1 at Deepdale in February, coming on for the final five minutes.

Throughout his career, Johnson has had loan spells at Yeovil Town, Chesterfield and Oldham Athletic before The Lilywhites paid £50,000 for him in January 2015. Having started out at Crystal Palace schoolboys, he moved to Aston Villa`s academy where he stayed until his move to Lancashire.
