Birmingham City fans should never take football for granted again

|

This reality shock to our game of football may change future seasons as we know it.

Vast transfer fees and wages at staggering levels, are just two elements to consider. World markets blitzed, Governments bailing out large and small companies, really do paint a very different picture as to what might happen in future seasons.

Supporters of every club, in all leagues, face financial cutbacks of some sort, with the possibility of very selective matches going forward. Many will argue that out of catastrophes come some sort of good. I am of this belief.

League clubs outside the Premier League will, in my opinion, struggle to continue to operate and if they do, it will be down to individuals who have the money like devoted chairmen. Profit is rarely the objective. Good thing or otherwise it certainly gives everyone in football pause for thought.

All clubs dream of promotion and in particular, those in a league such as ours where the pot of gold is the greatest. What has hit home with this particular postponing of football is the black void of not seeing a game between two teams.

Local teams in my area, such as Kidderminster Harriers and Stourbridge Town, would certainly get an avalanche of customers should they be able to play – such is our thirst to watch a game of football. My conclusion and thoughts of this enforced break centre not around the frantic race to get into playoffs and all that but being able to simply go and watch a game.

We sometimes get carried away with the glories on offer within our game, whereas deep down, we simply want to see football being played again. We will all pull through without it I know, we have to, but this elongated absence really does flag up our love for the game and I, for one, will never take it for granted in the future.

I’ve been going to football for 25 years plus but the thought of being in a crowd fills me with dread now. There are things much more important than football and I am seeing things in a totally different perspective. I don’t think things or people will ever be the same again.

Well I’m certainly not taking anything for granted but the most important thing is we are all in the same boat at the moment.

I have been sent home from work told that I will get 80% of my wage for the first 3 months the fourth month I will only get 50% if it goes on for that long I hope not .

So to be fair football is the last thing on my mind at the moment.

I don’t take anything for granted because you don’t know what’s around the corner. Some people called that pessimism I call it realism. When it comes to Birmingham City I try to be has positive about things as I possibly can.

I always have been and always will be I will always look for the best in things rather and dwell on the negatives I look for the positives. But at the moment it’s the same for every club in the entire country not just Birmingham City it’s not Birmingham City’s problem it’s everybody’s problem . Now I’m not saying that’s a positive it’s almost certainly and negative but I’m still optimistic and positive for the future.

It’s the only way you’ll get through it. I mean with my own job I can’t survive on 50% of my wage I have a mortgage to pay just like a lot of other people I don’t know about anyone else but I think my own life is more important than football and the life of my family far more important than football the life of every person stands next to me at the ground is far more important than football. So the life and welfare at the whole entire country is far more important than football.

This virus puts everything into perspective. We love our football without doubt but see the bigger picture very quickly when the serious stuff erupts. Glad that we can write our thoughts.
