Norwich City defender Ryan Bennett has emerged as a potential transfer target for Birmingham City. The 27-year-old`s current contract expires next month with Norwich confirming that he will not be offered a new deal at Carrow Road.

Bennett, who can play as a central defender or right back, has made 290 career appearances for Grimsby Town, Peterborough United and Norwich and has previously represented England at U18 and U21 level.

Blues boss Harry Redknapp is looking to bolster all areas of his squad and has discussed potential signings with Jeff Vetere, the new Director of Football, and Ewan Chester, former Head of Recruitment.

Bennett played 32 times for the Canaries last season but was one of seven players released by the club. Brighton manager, and former Blues boss, Chris Hughton is also thought to be keen on the Kent-born man.
