One in, more to follow. Blues’ summer recruitment programme commenced with the signing of David Stockdale from Brighton on a free transfer.

The Harry Redknapp affect is taking shape. Just to clarify a few facts: Stockdale helped the Seagulls to promotion last season keeping 22 clean sheets in the process. He was named in the Championship team of the year. He was statistically the best ‘keeper in the second tier last term.

Inarguably, it’s a fantastic addition to the squad.

Tomasz Kuszczak has performed admirably since he joined in 2015. His 80 appearances have been, on the whole, a decent standard but now the Pole will have an almighty battle on his hands to be selected ahead of Blues’ new stopper.

You could argue that Blues perhaps don’t need another keeper but Stockdale comes with the sort of quality that any club craves. Chelsea were reportedly sniffing around too…

If Redknapp continues to make signings of this ilk, Blues won’t be far away from the the pace setters.

  • I’ll probably be slaughtered for this but I’ve never been a big fan of kuszack so this is great news. He’s been ok but just ok for me. Yes he’s had some brilliant moments but overall I don’t think we could move to the next level if he is our number one.

  • KUZ needs competition , Dave will give him that an take over when the need arises …welcome Dave onward and upward Kro

  • Very happy at this. As I said when we retained Legsdinz we need two quality keepers challenging for the spot and IMO we should’ve released Legsdinz.
