Birmingham City have made David Stockdale their first summer signing after the goalkeeper agreed a three-year deal with the club.

The 31-year-old joins on a free transfer after he was unable to agree a new deal with former club Brighton. Premier League champions Chelsea were thought to be keen on a deal but Blues have won the race for his signature

Stockdale was an integral part of Chris Hughton’s side who gained automatic promotion to the Premier League, keeping 20 clean sheets in 45 games – the most in the league.

Harry Redknapp is expected to make Stockdale his first choice goalkeeper with Tomasz Kuszczak, Adam Legzdins, Conal Trueman and Jake Weaver still all under contract at the club.

  • Like to see Trueman go out on loan to Walsall, as they are in need of a goalkeeper. He can then also do some work with the Blues coaching staff just down the road.

  • All the dead links but you don’t see this one coming. Plynch Trueman is to go out on loan.

  • Real surprise this signing. Just shows how HR works-knows what he needs and not swayed by media speculation. Next few weeks will prove interesting.

  • After Stockdale it would not surprise me to see a very much changed starting eleven to that of our last game at Bristol.Perhaps only 4/5 will survive.
