Birmingham City have completed the signing of Craig Gardner on a permanent basis from West Bromwich Albion.

The Brummie spent half of last season on loan at St. Andrews and a £1.3m deal had already been agreed in principle.

Blues have finalised the deal ahead of a summer rebuild – Gardner becomes the first face through the door.

Harry Redknapp will be unveiled as the club’s new manager before the weekend and he had a say in Gardner’s transfer.

The 29 year-old appeared 20 times during his loan spell – his second spell at his boyhood club. Previously, he turned out 52 times before the club sold him to Sunderland following relegation in 2011.

Gardner was part of the Blues team to lift the Carling Cup when they beat Arsenal 2-1 at Wembley.
