Birmingham City are edging closer to a deal to sign Middlesbrough midfielder Stewart Downing, according to The Gazette.
The two clubs are said to have ‘thrashed out’ a deal for the 32-year-old who has been told he can leave the Riverside on a free.
Downing featured 30 times last season and scored one goal as Boro were relegated from the Premier League.
He previously played for Aston Villa, Liverpool and West Ham and has 35 England caps to his name.
A deal could be completed as soon as today or tomorrow.
