Birmingham City captain Paul Robinson has criticised the referee after the Blues drew 1-1 away at Leeds this past weekend.

The Blues’ skipper felt that the referee got the three Blues bookings wrong on the day and failed to recognise a straight red card offence for Leeds striker Mirco Antenucci.

‘The player head-butted me and that`s a red card – I don`t see how he could do that and get away with it,”

“I reacted but just reacted by blowing him a kiss. I`d like to see the ref`s report about that. I`ve never heard anything like that, never in a million years.

I imagine the booking will be descent. Which is questionable, we see ref’s let the odd tackle go in the interest of letting a game take a more natural (and competitive) course. Booking someone for reacting without aggression or recklessness seems odd.

“When a player blatantly throws his head in towards you, I thought that was a straight red card.

“I admit I blew a kiss, I blew more than one. But I didn`t know that was a bookable offence.

Considering players have been booked for sarcastically clapping officials before, it isn’t a million miles away from any given logic to know that a kiss might earn you a word with the referee.

“I feel very disappointed in the referee. He booked players for no reason and I`d like to see his report and what he booked me for.

“I thought he disrupted the game, he could have let the game flow more. He booked players for both teams.

And, that is what we don’t want to see. A disrupted game from an official standpoint. Just in general it is important to recognise that the referee has a job to do, if there are fouls going in and there is no advantage (the ball moving forward) then he is entitled to stop the game.

“Their penalty appeals weren`t penalties for me at all. I don`t know about ours because I was too far away.

“I couldn`t tell whether their player got a nick on the ball first but they thought he did. Theirs would have been harsh against us.”

From the camera angles I have seen it looked like a penalty, but admittedly I did miss the highlight show on BBC as it is on way past my bed time.
