The debate over whether Lee Camp is good enough to be the club’s number one will likely rumble on and on with fans, but it seems his performance against Reading on Tuesday did impress Garry Monk:

The 33-year-old could have perhaps done better for John Swift’s free-kick, but speaking after the game, the manager hinted he is weighing up who he selects in goal for the Swansea game tomorrow evening:

“I thought he did very well. We know what Lee brings, really good experience. Connal has done exceptionally well. I have decisions to make going forward but I needed to bring that experienced one in to help Connal and the whole team.”

Connal Trueman would be favourite to keep the number one jersey after starting the first two league games of the campaign, but Monk has consistently talked about providing competition for the 22-year-old.

Bringing in Camp was not surprising due to the lack of senior experience among the keepers the manager has chosen to be included with the first-team squad.

However, it seems that rather than just providing cover, the ex QPR and Cardiff goalkeeper could well be in contention to start against the Swans.

  • Pity this announcement isn’t about the return of Stockdale. My opinion I know but Trueman inclusion against a team such as Swansea would soon have Potter calling up Wilfred Bony and co.Dreadful situation we find ourselves in.

  • Our defence is not good enough to have a question mark over goalkeeping. Bite the bullet and re-instate Stockdale. A clean sheet against Swansea will be a minor miracle!!
